Auditions

In order to audition for Colorado All State Orchestra, students must

  1. Attend a CHSAA school.

  2. Be a member of their curricular school orchestra for both fall and spring semesters if one exists. This means that you must participate in the orchestra class that meets during the day if one exists. If one does not exist, please contact the Colorado ASO chair for more details.

  3. Be in grades 10-12.

  4. Be academically eligible as outlined by CHSAA.

  5. Live in Colorado.

  6. Pay the audition fee and submit their audition by the posted deadline.

String Solo Selection

  1. If the solo you are working on is not on the solo list, then you may still play it. A difficulty score will be assigned during judging. If you’re curious what score it will get, find a piece on the solo list that is similar, and it will be close to that. Please ask your private teacher for guidance.

  2. It is NEVER a good idea to choose a solo based on its difficulty rating. If the solo is too difficult, it will not be performed well. A solid performance of a piece that is appropriate for your level will always be the best choice. The number of difficulty points assigned will likely not affect your acceptance. Playing a solo well WILL affect your acceptance.
